A recorder is an audio device capable of preserving the sound of a person's voice.

While on P3X-888 and after being kidnapped by the Unas, Chaka, Dr. Daniel Jackson was seen holding a recorder which he regularly used. (SG1: "The First Ones")

In 2000, when Martin Lloyd messaged Stargate Command requesting a meeting with Colonel Jack O'Neill, his call was recorded. His message went on for a long time with various conspiracy theories but also the fact that the Stargate was discovered in Egypt and was under Cheyenne Mountain. Major General George Hammond played the tape to SG-1 and fast-forwarded through this multitude of claims to get to the fact of the Stargate at the end. (SG1: "Point of No Return")
